About Buenos Aires

9 de Julio

One of the reasons we decided to get married here (aside from the presence of Ariel’s extended family) was because we heard so much from all of you on how much you wanted to visit. So now that we have successfully convinced you to join us, we want to share a little more on where you’ll be visiting!

Buenos Aires is the capital city of Argentina, situated on the shore of the Rio de la Plata — the widest river in the world. It’s one of the most populous cities in Latin America and a hub of culture, art, and history.

Getting to Buenos Aires

There are two airports in Buenos Aires – but you’ll likely be flying into Ezeiza-Ministro Pistarini Airport (EZE) where most international flights go. It’s about 19 miles from the city, roughly a 45 minute drive. The other airport is called Jorge Newbery-Aeroparque Airport (AEP), and it is used for domestic and regional flights to some bordering countries. You likely won’t be using that airport unless you plan to travel domestically.

We’ve compiled some common itineraries, but if you’re coming from somewhere beyond the options shared below, please contact us and we’d be happy to help talk you through what the best option is!

Visas

If you’ll be traveling with a US passport, you’re good to go! Argentina has a visa policy that allows citizens of more than 120 nationalities to enter without having to apply for a tourist visa, including visitors from the US. See the full list of countries exempt from visa requirements here.

Unfortunately, Pakistani and Indian passport-holders must apply for a visa. If that’s you, please read on!

Where to stay

There are a lot of great options you can choose from when visiting Buenos Aires! Fortunately, hotels and Airbnbs are abundant and, relatively speaking, inexpensive. With help from our event planners, we’ve secured special rates at a handful of hotels in prime neighborhoods.

Neighborhood guide

There are TONS of neighborhoods in Buenos Aires to choose from for your stay. We’d recommend staying in either Recoleta or Palermo neighborhoods since these neighborhoods are home to great restaurants, bars, boutiques and sights. Our wedding events will primarily take place in or around these neighborhoods, too! Here’s a birds-eye view of the most important Buenos Aires neighborhoods.

Local transportation

Getting to/from the airport

The best way to get from the airport in Buenos Aires (EZE) to the heart of Buenos Aires is by private car, taxi, or Uber/Cabify. The trip is about 45 minutes by car. The cost should be around $25 USD.

Since many people attending will likely be arriving on the same flights, we will be coordinating shuttles to take people to the airport to their hotels. Please stay tuned if this is something you are interested in!

Getting around

While Buenos Aires is a big city, most of the neighborhoods you’re likely to want to visit are close together in the northwest part of the city. Assuming the weather is nice, you’ll probably be doing a lot of walking!

The best way to get around Buenos Aires is by Uber or Cabify. We recommend downloading the Cabify app.
